How do video or phone consultations work?
→You will need a smartphone, tablet or laptop with a camera and a good Wifi connection. Follow the link we send you via email or SMS.Click the link and join the virtual waiting room. The doctor will admit you and your consult begins.Your consultation will last up to 15 minutes.

How will I know if my medical issues can be treated this way?
→When you book with Online Doctor NZ our clinical team will contact you before your scheduled appointment and ask a few simple questions that will help us determine whether a phone or video consult is right for your needs. Our clinical team may ask you to send photos if needed to assist the GP with the consultation.

How do I pay?
→Once your Online Doctor NZ consultation is finished, you will be asked to make your payment using our secure online payment platform.

Is it secure and private?
→Just like an in-person consult with your doctor or nurse, your Online Doctor NZ consultation will be private and confidential. The systems used by Online Doctor NZ meet recommended standards to protect the privacy and security of your visit. Your information is not stored in the online platform.

What happens if there are technical/connection problems?
→If there are issues with your video connection e.g. the picture stops/freezes or the sound stops, the doctor will immediately phone you on your mobile number to assist or to complete the consultation on the phone.

How can I get my prescription?
→Our trained clinical team will assess your needs and can send your prescription to your chosen local pharmacy.

Dr Emily McNicholas MBChB FRNZCGP
Dr Emily was born and raised in Opotiki in the Eastern Bay of Plenty and graduated from the University of Auckland in 2006. Dr Emily has worked as a Doctor in the Eastern Bay of Plenty for the past 16 years and has been a fulltime General Practitioner (GP) since 2010.
Dr Emily enjoys all aspects of General Practice and has a particular interest in Women’s Health, Paediatrics and Preventative Medicine. Dr Emily lives with her husband and two sons in Ohope and in her spare time she will be either at the beach or fishing.
Dr Emily enjoys Virtual Medicine as it allows her to connect with patients throughout the country and deliver healthcare to patients at a time and location that suits them. Dr Emily is looking forward to meeting new patients and providing them with effective high-quality care.
